PULLMAN, WA— Pullman Regional Hospital and Inland Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Clinic of Pullman and Moscow are expanding access to sports medicine through a new team member, Sports Medicine Physician Jesse Shaw, DO.

Dr. Shaw will see patients for Sports Medicine-related injury diagnosis and treatment at Inland Orthopaedics of Pullman and student-athletes on the Palouse. He works with patients and athletes of all ages and abilities, including Olympic athletes. He has prior military service in naval special warfare, providing evaluations and treatment.

Beyond sports physicals, he helps diagnose and treat ankle and foot injuries such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles problems, degenerative joint diseases like osteoarthritis, and elbow, hip and groin issues like tendonitis, nerve inflammation, and bursitis. He also treats overuse injuries such as IT band problems and stress fractures in addition to shoulder problems and hand and wrist injuries like rotator cuff injuries, and joint pain and dislocations.

Dr. Shaw is a member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He is also an Associate Professor in the College of Graduate Studies- Sports Medicine/Performance at the University of Western States in Portland, OR, where he most recently practiced before moving to Pullman, WA.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology/Psychology at Juniata College in Huntington, PA and attended Medical School at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA, earning a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a family medicine residency at St. Petersburg General Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, AL. He received a post-graduate certification in Sports Management at New York University.

Dr. Shaw is drawn to the Sports Medicine field because he likes to work with his hands and fix problems and injuries. He wants his patients to know they shouldn’t delay care. “People should seek care as soon as their functionality is impacted. Delaying care only makes the road to recovery longer.”

Outside of work, Dr. Shaw enjoys spending time with his family, including his two young daughters, watching sports, and exploring the outdoors.
