PULLMAN, WA–Pullman Regional Hospital’s Board of Commissioners is seeking to fill a vacant board position. Sandra O’Keefe served on the Board for 16 years and will be resigning from the role to care for family out of the area; her last day of service will be December 31, 2024.

Sandra, or Sandy as she’s known by most, joined the Board in 2008. An oncology nurse with a 30-year career, Sandy said the Commissioner role appealed to her because “I’ve always been a patient advocate. I was excited by the chance to learn about the challenges, to explore and support the opportunities Pullman Regional has in providing better access to healthcare in our region.”

“Sandy has provided a tremendous service to the hospital and the community,” said Jeff Elbracht, Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioners President. “Her dedication and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed and her impact is immeasurable.”

To apply for the 6-year term, eligible candidates may send a letter of interest accompanied by a resume or CV to President of Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioners, at the hospital’s address: 835 SE Bishop Blvd. Pullman, WA 99163 by December 20, 2024.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a registered voter, live in the hospital district (Pullman city limits) and cannot be a hospital employee.

Time commitments include attending one public board meeting per month and additional special board meetings; two to four are typical per year. As well as two to three committee meetings per month, a two-day planning session, an estimated three hours a month for reading and study, attendance at up to two regional or state educational meetings, and involvement at various hospital functions including accreditation, hospital employee appreciation, and fundraising events.

The Board will hold a special meeting January 8, 2025 to interview candidates and potentially appoint a new commissioner. The appointee must file a Personal Financial Affairs Statement with the Public Disclosure Commission, and they could participate in the 2025 election.
