Pullman, WA—The annual fundraiser in support of Pullman Regional Hospital’s Athletic Training Program—serving four local high schools—is slated for Friday, August 12 at Red Barn Farms in Colton, WA.
The event, 5th Quarter Rally, is chaired by local farmer and program supporter, Wayne Druffel, and will be held at Ty and Kay Meyer’s venue, Red Barn Farms. The event begins at 6pm with a social and hosted bar, followed by a BBQ and keynote delivered by Mack Strong, former NFL fullback and football sportscaster. Tickets are $100 and must be purchased in advance online at www.pullmanregional.org/redbarn
Through the hospital’s Orthopedic Center of Excellence, full-service athletic training care is provided for more than 750 student-athletes at Colton, Garfield-Palouse, Potlatch and Pullman High Schools. Certified athletic trainers, employed by Pullman Regional Hospital, are embedded in each school; they see all student-athletes for injury prevention and treatment, concussion management and work with local physicians to fast-track healthcare.
“This program and the individualized attention we can provide kids is crucial to keeping them healthy, safe and active,” said Dr. Ed Tingstad, Chief Medical Officer for Pullman Regional Hospital and Orthopedic Surgeon. “Five years ago, we started the regional high school athletic training program to bring accessible, exceptional healthcare to our youth. We have an extraordinarily supportive and generous community; more physicians have joined us, and philanthropy is keeping this program sustainable. The care provided to our kids at no charge is a game changer for many in our communities.”
“Our annual 5th Quarter Rally event is our largest program fundraiser,” said Rueben Mayes, Chief Development and External Relations Officer for Pullman Regional Hospital. “This year we have a $30,250 matching challenge. Every dollar raised from now through the event will be match one to one. Because of the work of our incredible volunteer committee, we have our sights set on raising more than $100,000 through this event.”
Most years the team of athletic trainers provide around 14,000 treatments. Through the athletic training program, up to $400,00 in care is provided at no additional cost to the school or parents. All assessments at the schools, taping, stretching and evaluations provided by the athletic trainers are done free of charge.
“Without philanthropy, this program is not possible,” said Wayne Druffel. “Every dollar donated comes back to our kids tenfold. With a team of medical professionals at the ready, parents and grandparents can have peace of mind—which is priceless. This is an investment in our future, and we want everyone to be part of it.”
