Pullman, WA— Pullman Regional Hospital’s Center for Learning & Innovation is partnering with Neill Public Library to promote health literacy in the community through a new program called Read into Wellness.
Each month, a new health and wellness themed title, recommended by the Network of the National Library of Medicine will be available to check out at Neill Public Library. The hospital will be purchasing four copies of each book selected every month.
“Health literacy is empowering, and our partnership with Pullman Regional Hospital is yet another way we can support our community’s access to lifelong learning,” said Joanna Bailey, Director for Neill Public Library.
The first featured read of the program is “Beautiful Affliction,” by Lene Fogelberg, a memoir which explores the true story of a young woman growing up in Sweden with a life-threating heart condition that goes undiagnosed and untreated. With chapters alternating between past and present, readers learn how Fogelberg navigates the reality she feels living with “something very wrong,” the dismissal of the Swedish health system and the promise of hope in a move to the United States.
For younger readers, Foods with Moods: A First Book of Feelings, is also a February recommended read for youth ages four to eight years old.
Find new monthly featured titles at Neill Public Library located at 210 N Grand Avenue in downtown Pullman, open Monday through Thursday 10am to 7pm; Friday and Saturday 10am to 6pm.
