As the year comes to an end, it’s out with the old and in with the new. New Stryker beds, gurneys, stretchers, armchairs, and side tables, to be exact.
Pullman Regional Hospital has received brand new and updated furniture to support patients in our Emergency Department, ICU, Medical Surgical Unit, Same Day Surgery, and BirthPlace. Our previous furniture served our community for seven years, and it’s time to start the year with new state-of-the-art technology.
Verna Yockey, Director of the Medical Surgical Unit and ICU, shares her excitement for how the new beds and furniture will help patients feel more comfortable during their hospital stay. “Comfort is paramount in patient care” she says. “The hospital isn’t home, so every piece of comfort helps.”
The new beds will also help lower infection rates and prevent fewer bed sores and wounds for ICU patients as the new mattresses were made with skin care in mind. Additionally, the newer beds come equipped with louder, more sensitive bed alarms, so staff can attend to patients quickly and efficiently.
Verna also states that the new beds, gurneys, and stretchers are equipped with enhanced safety features. They include an assisted driving function that makes them easier and faster to maneuver, so staff can get patients to the right place swiftly and safely. She adds that, with the Patient Care Expansion project in progress, high-tech equipment complements the hospital’s commitment to elevate care. “The new beds will be helpful for staff to minimize lifting, pulling, and pushing.”
All new beds (with the exception of those for labor and delivery) come with integrated scales in compliance with the hospital’s Stroke Ready Certification. Furthermore, all new beds lower to 13 inches off the ground and include multiple bariatric options and accommodate taller patients. “We have beds to accommodate folks of all sizes and ensure the comfort of everyone,” shares Verna.
Our goal for 2026 (and every year) is to continue providing an elevated healthcare experience for our region. New beds may seem like a small step toward our goal, but they’re already helping patients and staff rest a little easier.
