PULLMAN, WA – After a 34-year career at Pullman Regional Hospital, Jeannie Eylar, Chief Clinical Officer, will be retiring in mid-November 2024.
Jeannie recalls coming to Washington State University from her hometown of Choteau, Montana to pursue a degree in pharmacy. Pharmacy, Engineering and Nursing students were all on the same floor of her dorm. She changed her major to Nursing that semester, and never looked back, the change in career paths was inspired by her love of people.
Her career at Pullman Regional started in 1990 when the hospital, then Pullman Memorial, was still on the WSU campus. Jeannie was hired as a nurse in the same-day unit; she was then promoted to Surgery Nurse Director. After a sweeping change in leadership at the hospital in 1992, Jeannie served in the roles as Interim Director of Nursing and Interim CEO.
In 1994, with new leadership established at Pullman Memorial, Jeannie stepped into the role as Chief Clinical Officer of which she has filled since.
Jeannie was paramount in the planning, construction, design and successful move to the “new” hospital, Pullman Regional Hospital, in 2004. One of her greatest accomplishments was leading the work of the patient safety team to create systems and a culture that supports patient safety and satisfaction. The focus in this area, is a large part of what drives employee and nurse satisfaction, which also enhances quality care.
Pullman Regional is working with a recruiting firm to conduct a national search for the role of Chief Nursing Officer. The hospital seeks to fill the position in early 2025.
