Shane McFarland Appointed as Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioner

PULLMAN, WA–Pullman Regional Hospital’s Board of Commissioners welcomes Shane McFarland as the newest appointed member.

 

The position was previously held by Karen Karpman who served on the board for seven years; her last day of service was March 6, 2025.

 

McFarland was appointed and assumed the role of a Pullman Regional Hospital Commissioner on April 2. To pursue a full 6-year term, McFarland will run for the position in the November 2025 election.

 

McFarland is the Online Wellness and Health Coordinator for Washington State University. He is also a faculty instructor, prevention scientist, emergency medical technician, certified exercise physiologist, massage therapist and doctoral candidate at WSU. His research focuses on community health initiatives.

 

McFarland moved to Pullman in 2013 to work at WSU following his time in the Peace Corps. He received his Masters of Prevention Science from WSU. McFarland has a background in law enforcement, emergency response and experience in crisis management and public safety. He is the owner and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor of Mantis Training Academy in Pullman, WA.

 

“I have personally benefitted from the hospital’s exceptional care, including lifesaving treatment in the Emergency Department, expert and humble Internal Medicine referrals, and outstanding Family Medicine services for my child,” said McFarland. “I am eager to contribute my skills in the continuum of care, assessment, community engagement and program develop to support hospital initiatives, enhance patient experiences and advance the hospital’s strategic goals.”

 

The Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioners, an elected body, is legally responsible for overseeing hospital district policies and organization with respect to the district’s operation, including the delivery of quality patient care and meeting community healthcare needs.
