    The Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation recently awarded three education scholarships totaling $6,000 to Pullman Regional Hospital employees Hannah Kasperick, Anya Kinyanjui and Cindy Snell, for the 2020 Spring semester.

     

    Hannah Kasperick and Anya Kinyanjui each received the Pullman Regional Hospital Staff Education Scholarship, which provides $2,500 to employees seeking to improve their skills and advance their education and career to benefit the patients of Pullman Regional Hospital. Cindy Snell was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree. Awarded funds may be used for tuition, books and school expenses.

     

    With a career goal of becoming a family nurse practitioner, Hannah Kasperick has enrolled in Gonzaga University’s Master of Science in Nursing program. Hannah has been a member of the hospital’s surgical staff for two years. In a letter of recommendation supporting Hannah’s application, her dedication to becoming a certified nurse of the operating room was applauded in addition to her focus and drive to learn. “I want to be able to see the before and after of patient conditions and be someone who can aide in their treatment processes, helping people to reach their version of a healthy life,” wrote Hannah in her application.

     

    Anya Kinyanjui has worked for Pullman Regional Hospital for nine years as a patient registrar at Summit Therapy and Health Services. A passion for helping people and an increasing trend in long wait times for Summit Therapy patients to see a massage therapist sparked her interest in a new career path. She’ll apply her scholarship award towards massage therapy school at Altura College of Pullman, WA. A letter of recommendation described Anya as caring and compassionate who would undoubtedly make the transition to patient care very naturally.

     

    “While pursuing my associates degree in nursing, it became very apparent that to be a nurse is to engage in life-long learning and teaching,” wrote Cindy Snell in her application. “I would love the opportunity to introduce students to nursing and to the culture of Pullman Regional Hospital.” For the past three years, Cindy has worked in the medical/surgical unit of the hospital. She sees obtaining her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree as the next step toward her goal of becoming a clinical instructor at Pullman Regional Hospital. Cindy’s dedication and conviction to the nursing profession and opting into additional training as a sexual assault nurse examiner was praised in her letter of recommendation.

     

    The Staff Scholarship is available to any employee who has been employed at the hospital for at least one year and works a minimum of twenty hours a week. The BSN scholarship is available to Pullman Regional Hospital registered nurses enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science Nursing degree program who have been employed at the hospital for at least one year and work a minimum of twenty hours a week.

     

    The Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation’s Governance Committee reviews and awards scholarships twice a year. In 2019, the Foundation awarded $17,000 in scholarship awards.

     

    Applicants are eligible to receive one Staff Education scholarship a lifetime, but may additionally apply for and receive a BSN Scholarship through the BSN Scholarship program. Applications for 2020 Fall scholarships will be available through the Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation in May of 2020.
