PULLMAN, WA–Pullman Regional Hospital’s Board of Commissioners welcomes Cheryl Oliver as the newest appointed member.

The position was previously held by C. Michael Murphy, MD, who served on the board for 23 years; his last day of service was May 4, 2023.

Oliver was appointed and assumed the role of a Pullman Regional Hospital Commissioner on July 19. Her term expires in December 2023. To pursue a full 6-year term, she could run for the position in the November 2023 election.

Oliver is the Associate Dean of Professional Programs for Washington State University’s Carson College of Business; she has served in this role since 2018 and has had a 23-year career at WSU. Oliver earned her MBA at Maryville University of Saint Louis, an EdM and BA from WSU. She is a board member of the Pullman Regional Hospital Women’s Leadership Guild, serves on the WSU Global Campus Academic Council, and was a founding and current member of the Women in Business Education International Network. Additionally, Oliver has also served as a past chair of the YMCA Board of Trustees and co-chaired the Citizens for Pullman Schools.

The culture of healthcare has always been part of Oliver’s life; before retiring, her father was a psychologist and her mother was a nurse practitioner.

As a longtime Pullman resident, Oliver recalls the passion and pride she’s experienced when speaking with other hospital commissioners. “This role aligns with my core values of education and healthy families,” said Oliver. “As a strategic thinker, deep listener and someone who very much enjoys partnerships, relationship building and advocating for an organization I believe in, it will be my honor and pleasure to serve.”

“As Pullman Regional Hospital Commissioners, our role is to be a voice for and be responsive to our community,” said Jeff Elbracht, President of the Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioners. “Cheryl will be a welcomed partner in this effort to serve as a public district hospital representative and elected official.”

“Cheryl demonstrates outstanding awareness and understanding of our strategic plan, has roots in our community and clearly cares about the well-being of our community in every endeavor she commits herself to,” said Joe Pitzer, Board of Commissioner. “Her connections in business locally and nationally provide great bridge-building opportunities for the hospital and with the WSU community.”

The Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioners, an elected body, is legally responsible for overseeing hospital district policies and organization with respect to the district’s operation, including the delivery of quality patient care and meeting community healthcare needs. Commissioners meet monthly at Pullman Regional Hospital; board meetings are open to the public.
