PULLMAN, WA – On March 21, 2025, Pullman Regional Hospital learned the names of the three newest additions to the three-year Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Family Medicine Residency Program – Pullman.
Every year on Match Day, the National Resident Matching Program announces where medical students will go for their residency, following graduation from medical school.
The three residents headed to Pullman are Risper Kirui [pronounced REE-spah Keer-OO-ee], a medical student at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Faculty of Health Sciences in Beersheba, Israel from Moscow, ID; Corey Pendergraft, a medical student at Trinity School of Medicine in Ribishi, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from Kimberley, BC, Canada; and Nathan Swallow, a medical student at Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine in Provo, Utah from Sammamish, WA.
This is the third cohort for the Pullman Regional Hospital-based WSU Family Medicine Residency Program. Kirui, Pendergraft and Swallow will join the first and second cohorts in Pullman this summer. With nine physician residents, the Pullman program now has a full complement of residency positions.
This year, the Pullman-based residents were selected from more than 462 applicants. Of the applications received, 62 individuals representing 33 medical schools were interviewed for the three available positions.
“I continue to be impressed by the level of interest in our program,” said Dr. Stephen Hall, program director for the WSU Family Medicine Residency Program – Pullman. “This is our third cohort for Pullman, and I’m so proud of what we have created thanks to our incredible faculty, the support of our local physicians, everyone at Pullman Regional Hospital, WSU and our community, who have helped our residents feel at home in Pullman.”
In addition to Dr. Hall, members of the Pullman-based Residency Leadership Team include Dr. Molly Thompson, Associate Program Director; Dr. Brenna Harris, Dr. Katie Hryniewicz, Dr. Jennifer Shonk and Dr. Molly Webber.
During their three-year residency program at Pullman, residents experience rotations through specialties of pediatrics, surgery, emergency medicine, obstetrics and others. Physician residents also see and treat patients, along with family medicine physicians Drs. Harris, Shonk, Thompson and Webber, at the Family Medicine Residency Center, located at 825 SE Bishop Blvd., Suite 401, Pullman, WA 99163, inside Pullman Regional Hospital.
"Rural communities have long faced challenges in accessing family medicine, and we are dedicated to training and developing physicians in Pullman," said Matt Forge, CEO of Pullman Regional Hospital. "Our collaboration with WSU is enabling us to create sustainable solutions for improved access to primary care and better serve our community. We are thrilled to welcome our third group of physician residents to Pullman, where they can train, work, and live in a truly outstanding community."
"We are committed to providing rural communities with the exceptional medical care they deserve,” said Dr. James Record, Dean of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. “Each Match Day represents a crucial milestone in our ongoing efforts to improve health care outcomes in this community, and Pullman has been an exceptional partner in that endeavor."
The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Family Medicine Residency Program - Pullman earned accreditation in May 2021 and is the college’s first rural residency. Construction of the Residency Center at Pullman Regional Hospital was funded entirely through philanthropy and the program continues to be a fundraising priority for the Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation and the WSU College of Medicine. This unique partnership allows donors to receive shared credit between the two entities and support the future of family medicine physicians who have a special interest in serving rural communities.
