PULLMAN, WA— Pullman Regional Hospital and Inland Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Clinic of Pullman and Moscow are expanding access to sports medicine through a new team member, Sports Medicine Physician Michael Osterholt, MD.
Dr. Osterholt will see patients for Sports Medicine-related injury diagnosis and treatment at Inland Orthopaedics of Pullman and student-athletes on the Palouse. He works with patients and athletes of all ages and abilities.
He also joins WSU Athletics as a team physician, caring for student-athletes on campus, at the request of athletic trainers and during games.
Beyond sports physicals, he helps diagnose and treat ankle and foot injuries such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles problems, degenerative joint diseases like osteoarthritis. Dr. Osterholt treats elbow, hip and groin issues like tendonitis, nerve inflammation, and bursitis. He also treats overuse injuries such as IT band problems and stress fractures in addition to shoulder problems and hand and wrist injuries like rotator cuff injuries, and joint pain and dislocations.
Dr. Osterholt is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He has experience working with athletes at a variety of levels including University of Nebraska student-athletes, Creighton University student-athletes, team physician for the College World Series, Omaha Lancers USHL Hockey Team, and Rapid City Youth Boxing.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Physiology at the University of Wyoming and attended Medical School at University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Services earning a Doctorate of Medicine. He completed a family medicine residency at Rapid City Family Medicine and a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr. Osterholt likes the Sports Medicine field because he enjoys fixing problems and injuries. He wants his patients to know that his goal is to get down to the crux of their problem and be realistic and supportive about how they can get better through personalized care plan development. “I truly enjoy sports medicine because I have the opportunity to help people across all activity levels stay active and functional and continue to do the things they love,” says Dr. Osterholt.
Outside of work, Dr. Osterholt enjoys spending time with his fiancée, woodworking, billiards (he’s a two-time Wyoming state champion!), camping, fishing, karaoke, and cheering for Denver-based professional sports teams!
