PULLMAN, WA – Pullman Regional Hospital is expanding its sports medicine program to provide greater access to specialized care for athletes and active individuals of all ages and abilities throughout the region.

What began with a focus on high school athletic training has grown into a comprehensive sports medicine program serving people at every stage of life with same-day access. Through the addition of sports medicine physicians Catherine Fairgrieve, DO, and Jason Blackham, MD, alongside Michael Osterholt, MD, Pullman Regional now has three dedicated sports medicine physicians providing care to everyone.

Dr. “Catie” Fairgrieve is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and holds a Sports Medicine Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) through the American Board of Emergency Medicine. She is also a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Jason Blackham is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and holds an ABIM Diplomate in Sports Medicine. He is also a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and American College of Sports Medicine.

Blackham and Fairgrieve join Dr. Michael Osterholt, who brings extensive experience in primary care sports medicine and collegiate athletics. Osterholt serves as the team physician for WSU Cougar Athletics and has worked with athletes at multiple levels. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

“Over the past several years, Pullman Regional Hospital and Inland Orthopaedics have expanded the sports medicine program beyond the sidelines, creating a regional network of care that serves local schools, university athletics, recreational athletes and active community members,” said Matt Forge, CEO of Pullman Regional Hospital. “This is a growing vision to be the region’s trusted leader in comprehensive sports medicine care so that we keep people healthy, active and competing at every stage of life.”

Through this growth, Pullman Regional and Inland Orthopaedics are making sports medicine care more accessible when injuries happen. Express Care at Inland Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Clinic’s Moscow, ID and Pullman, WA locations provide same-day evaluation with a sports medicine physician or orthopedic specialist for acute injuries, without having to wait for a traditional appointment.

Access extends to student-athletes throughout the region through Pullman Regional’s Regional High School Athletic Training Program. The hospital’s athletic training and orthopedic team partners with the Colton,

Garfield-Palouse, Potlatch and Pullman school districts to provide certified athletic trainers who work directly with young student-athletes, families and coaches to assess, treat and prevent sports injuries at no additional cost to families. The program also fast-tracks student athletes for immediate injury intervention to prevent lifelong and long-term injury impact.

At the collegiate level, Pullman Regional is the official hospital and healthcare provider of WSU Athletics, providing sports medicine and orthopedic care to Cougar student-athletes through its team physician program. Inland Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Clinic orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mat Taylor serves as a team physician for the University of Idaho Vandals, with Pullman Regional and Inland Orthopaedics providing additional sports medicine and orthopedic support to the program.

The addition of Fairgrieve and Blackham further strengthens the region’s access to sports medicine care, expanding the physician team available to support patients with acute injuries and ongoing sports medicine needs. They join Dr. Molly London, who provides same-day care at Inland Orthopaedics Express Care in Pullman and Moscow. Together, these services give patients across the region access to a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal care, from injury evaluation and treatment to orthopedic procedures, physical therapy and rehabilitation, and joint replacement.

From the playing field to everyday life, Pullman Regional’s growing sports medicine program is designed to help people stay active, recover more quickly from injuries and return to the life they enjoy.

“I’m excited to be part of a growing sports medicine program that is really invested in this community,” said Dr. Catie Fairgrieve. “We have an opportunity to care for athletes at every level, but also for anyone who wants to stay active and healthy. That’s what makes this such a rewarding place to practice.”

“This community feels like home for my family, and we’re excited to live here,” said Dr. Jason Blackham. “I’m excited to be part of a team that is expanding access to sports medicine and to build relationships with patients, families, athletes and the community for years to come.”
