    Pullman, WA— Scott Adams, CEO of Pullman Regional Hospital, recently announced his plan to retire in December 2022. Upon that date, Adams will have served as Chief Executive Officer of the public hospital for 30 years.

     

    “Through the support of the community and hospital family, we’ve achieved more for a rural critical access hospital than what was thought possible,” said Scott Adams, CEO. “Beyond excellence in healthcare, we have created a culture and collaborative environment that will enable our leaders to continue to be innovative and provide the best healthcare for our region.”

     

    During his tenure, Adams has been recognized for his innovative, thoughtful, and visionary leadership, along with the ability to respond to the ever-changing healthcare landscape. He was awarded the prestigious Joe Hopkins Memorial Award for outstanding leadership by the Washington State Hospital Association in 2014. Adams’ innovative leadership style was recognized in Seattle when he won the Seattle Business Magazine’s Healthcare Leader of the Year Award in 2009 and graced the cover of the magazine.

     

    Adams also oversaw the construction of Pullman’s new hospital on Bishop Boulevard which opened in 2004. As a leader and communitarian, Adams has served on both the board of WSHA and of the Association of Public Hospital Districts, as well as on the boards of his local United Way and Chamber of Commerce.

     

    “Scott Adams has helped create an environment where employees, staff, physicians and community members are engaged in the hospital,” said Jeff Elbracht, president of the PRH Board of Commissioners. “Through Scott’s leadership, Pullman Regional Hospital has a unique and inclusive culture.”

     

    “Scott has led efforts to build a vision for a self-sustaining, patient and employee-focused, award-winning hospital, and those values will remain a priority. This includes the goals of the Next Era of Excellence which are critical to the ongoing delivery of healthcare—the establishment of a Family Medicine Residency program, that will ensure a pipeline of primary care physicians, an electronic medical record to simplify access to health information, and ongoing investments in technology and space to meet the growing demand for medical services in the region,” said Elbracht.

     

    The Pullman Regional Hospital Succession Plan, adopted in 2017 by the Board of Commissioners, outlines a two-year transition plan for CEO succession, and requires internal candidates be considered in the first stage, with opportunity to consider external candidates, if necessary.

     

    Next steps in the succession plan will be discussed during the March 3, 2021 Board of Commissioners’ meeting, which is open to the public.
