PULLMAN, WA—Pullman Regional Hospital has invested in new, advanced mammography technology to provide high-quality breast imaging in Pullman.
The hospital's new Hologic 3Dimensions Mammography System combines high-resolution 3D imaging with advanced software designed to give radiologists high resolution images with advanced image processing algorithms.
Hologics next-generation computer aided detection brings advanced AI assistance directly into the mammography workflow. It is designed to help radiologists identify potentially suspicious findings and provides an additional layer of decision support without taking them away from their normal reading process. For the breast-imaging providers it’s another step toward a more intelligent, integrated, and future-ready mammography environment.
“It's important to invest in equipment that allows us to provide the best images with the lowest dose of radiation,” said Dr. Robert Lloyd, Pullman Regional Hospital Radiologist. “Imaging and diagnostic technology are continually evolving, and we're proud to have these advanced capabilities here in Pullman.”
The new system includes several technologies to enhance breast imaging:
-
Clarity HD high-resolution 3D imaging produces highly detailed images of breast tissue, helping radiologists see subtle findings more clearly.
-
3DQuorum technology, powered by Genius AI, uses artificial intelligence to create 6mm SmartSlices from the original high-resolution 3D images. This reduces the number of images a radiologist needs to review while preserving important clinical information.
Technology is only one part of Pullman Regional's breast imaging program. Pullman Regional is an accredited Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, and its mammography team brings 85 years of combined experience to patient care. Dr. Lloyd has been part of the program since 2007, while mammography team members Brenda, Jen and Chris bring 37, 17 and 11 years of experience, respectively.
Pullman Regional also partners with Inland Imaging, providing access to radiologists specializing in breast imaging.
Getting screened locally is simple. Screening mammograms can typically be scheduled within a week, with results generally available within two to three days. Most insurance plans cover screening mammograms at no cost, and a clinician's order is not required for a routine screening mammogram.
Mammography remains the front-line tool for detecting breast cancer before symptoms develop. Screening recommendations vary somewhat among national organizations, but screening for average-risk women begins at age 40 under current U.S. Preventive Services Task Force guidance. Women at higher risk may need to begin screening earlier or receive additional imaging and should talk with their healthcare provider about the best screening plan.
If you've been putting off your mammogram, make October the month you get it done.
