PULLMAN, WA—Pullman Regional Hospital has named Usha Nandhini, MD, Medical Director of the Sleep Lab. The position oversees the sleep lab program at Pullman Regional Hospital, including developing and reviewing all sleep studies, policies, sleep lab technologists, and technology.

Dr. Nandhini attended medical school at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at St Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, Mass., followed by a Sleep Medicine fellowship at Boston Medical Center in Boston, Mass. She has provided care on the Palouse since 2022 in the sleep medicine setting. As part of her Medical Director role, Dr. Nandhini will continue to provide sleep medicine care at Palouse Sleep Medicine, part of the Pullman Regional Hospital Clinic Network.

“Dr. Nandhini’s passion for helping patients achieve quality sleep, coupled with her depth of experience reading sleep studies, make her an exceptional physician. I’m confident her leadership of the Sleep Lab here at Pullman Regional Hospital will continue to elevate the patient experience,” says Dr. Pete Mikkelsen, Medical Director of Emergency Services and Chief Medical Officer for Pullman Regional Hospital.

As the first act in this new role, Dr. Nandhini is implementing a new sleep study technology, the Nihon Kohden Polysmith 12 polysomnography software. This upgrade will be used for in-lab and at-home sleep studies and will replace the current system. “I’m very excited about this technology- it’s what I trained on during my fellowship,” says Dr. Nandhini. “This system interfaces well with Epic electronic medical records, which means quicker results for patients and the ordering providers, as well as improved quality of the sleep studies.”

Dr. Nandhini believes in patient-focused care that integrates physical and emotional well-being with compassion, empathy, and respect. She prioritizes open communication and effective listening during appointments with patients and strives to make each patient feel important, both in the clinic and after they leave.

“I sincerely believe that good health begins with good sleep. I’m excited to provide direction over the sleep lab and help ensure our patients continue to have positive experiences and sleep studies here,” says Dr. Usha Nandhini, Medical Director of the Sleep Lab for Pullman Regional Hospital.
