PULLMAN, WA—Sarah Garibaldo and Jessie Roe, nurses at Pullman Regional Hospital’s BirthPlace, were recently honored with a Team DAISY Award, part of an international recognition program celebrating nurses who go above and beyond to provide compassionate, skillful care.
Sarah and Jessie share a unique connection, built over years of working and growing together. Sarah began her career at Pullman Regional Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the age of 19. Her passion for patient care was inspired by personal experiences, including her brother’s time in the neonatal intensive care unit and being present for the birth of her younger sister.
Jessie joined Pullman Regional in 2015 as a CNA student and worked alongside Sarah, who recognized her potential and recommended she be hired. Sarah trained Jessie both as a CNA and again later when Jessie returned as a Registered Nurse after completing nursing school. Jessie’s calling to nursing came after delivering her first child at Pullman Regional. Following an extended stay for medical reasons, she left feeling deeply cared for and inspired to provide that same level of care for others.
Sarah and Jessie’s Team DAISY Award came from a grateful patient who nominated them because they were “absolutely incredible in the care they provided,” while delivering the patient’s baby. “Sarah assured me and communicated effectively to instill my trust in her as she and Jessie cared for the baby and myself,” the grateful patient wrote. “Sarah and Jessie stepped up to ensure the healthy delivery of our baby. We are so thankful for Sarah and the nursing staff who helped us bring our kid into the world!”
