PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University Athletics and Pullman Regional Hospital have entered into a four-year agreement to provide premium healthcare services to Cougar student-athletes, effective July 8, it was announced Thursday.
“We are excited for the partnership with Pullman Regional Hospital that will benefit our student-athletes and appreciate the work of Pullman Regional CEO Matt Forge and WSU Athletics Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Ed Tingstad to make this agreement come to fruition,” said WSU Director of Athletics Anne McCoy. “This partnership greatly expands healthcare services for our student-athletes from one of the premier medical facilities in the Pacific Northwest.
“I’d also like acknowledge and thank Cougar Health Services for their years of service caring for and supporting our student-athletes,” McCoy added.
The agreement with PRH provides expanded services for WSU’s student-athletes, including:
- Year-round, on-campus clinics with expanded hours
- Increased physicians for event coverage
- Former student-athletes access to continued care with same physician who treated them while enrolled at WSU
- Opportunity for WSU’s Elson S Floyd College of Medicine/Pullman Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residency to gain experience in the sports medicine field
- Oversight of student-athlete healthcare services through Dr. Ed Tingstad as Medical Director
“We’re honored to strengthen and expand our role in the care of WSU student-athletes,” Pullman Regional Hospital CEO Matt Forge. “Our team of healthcare providers and the leadership of Dr. Ed Tingstad have developed an incredible service for the Cougs, and we’re so proud to be the hospital who helps our athletes perform at their best.”
In addition to the high-level of healthcare provided by PRH physicians, which includes two full-time primary care sports medicine physicians and one orthopedic surgeon, WSU student-athletes will have access to the extensive network of specialists at PRH. The agreement also provides increased behavioral health services, including two full-time mental health counselors, dedicated to student-athlete wellbeing.
Pullman Regional Hospital and WSU Athletics have had a sponsorship agreement in recent years and this agreement marks the first time Pullman Regional Hospital, the official hospital of WSU Athletics, will provide all medical care services for Cougar Athletics.
Earlier this spring, WSU Athletics’ previous healthcare agreement with Cougar Health Services, expired.
