It’s not uncommon for employees to change position titles and work their way up into managerial roles, however not many pivot their career path entirely, especially to provide patient care. But Anya Kinyanjui, LMT did just that!
Anya has been on the Summit Therapy & Health Services team since 2010. She started out as a Patient Registrar working at the front desk where she greeted patients, answered the phones, and assisted patients with scheduling their appointments. “Over the years, my role evolved to include verification of medical insurance benefits and eligibility, as well as obtaining authorizations for various services offered at the clinic,” says Kinyanjui.
“After a decade in the role of a Patient Registrar, I knew I was ready for something new, but I wanted to stay at Summit Therapy & Health Services with the people I’ve grown with since the beginning,” reflects Kinyanjui.
Anya decided it was finally time to pursue her love of massage so she enrolled in Altura College of Massage. Anya received a Staff Education Award from the Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation that she was able to apply towards her tuition. “In addition to the scholarship, I also received a tuition reimbursement and all the support and encouragement I could ever ask for from my supervisors, colleagues, and the organization as a whole.” She graduated from Altura College in Spring of 2021 and is now a practicing Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT). As of March 1, 2022, she will be a full time therapist and see patients 5 days a week.
While her job title and scope of work have changed, her passion for massage is not new; “I’ve had an interest in massage ever since I started working at Summit Therapy & Health Services. I am fascinated by the human body and all it can do.”
“As a budding Massage Therapist, I look forward to working alongside my colleagues and mentors and learning as much as I can so that I can flourish in my new career. I want to be as knowledgeable as possible in order to help my patients reach their wellness goals,” says Kinyanjui.
Anya has a special interest in Swedish massage, pregnancy massage, and structural release therapy. You can learn more about Summit Therapy & Health Services’ Massage providers, options, and how to schedule, online or by calling (509) 332-5106.
